Celebrate in Star-Spangled Style: Top Picks for Fourth of July Fun!

Two young kids watch a firetruck drive by at a 4th of July Parade.

Fourth of July Activities in Howard County, MD

Hey friends! Looking for some free and fab Fourth of July activities in Howard County? Here are my top picks for a star-spangled, fun-filled day with the kiddos!

  1. Lakefront Fireworks

Head to Columbia's Lake Kittamaqundi for an amazing fireworks display. Bring a blanket, enjoy the live music, and let the kids play while waiting for the big show! (10275 Wincopin Cir, Columbia, MD).

  2. Centennial Park Picnic & Play

Pack a picnic and enjoy a day at Centennial Park. The kids can play on the playground, and you can all take a leisurely stroll around the lake. (10000 Clarksville Pike, Ellicott City, MD).

  3. Indoor Fun at the Library

If the weather's not cooperating, check out Howard County Library System's Fourth of July themed activities and crafts. Perfect for keeping the little ones entertained!

  4. Family Fun at Clark’s Elioak Farm

Visit Clark’s Elioak Farm for a day of family-friendly activities. The farm features a petting zoo, a mini-train ride, pony rides, and a beautiful fairy tale forest. It’s an ideal spot for younger children to explore and enjoy the day.

  5. Catonsville 4th of July Parade

Don't miss out on the marching bands, floats, and fun for the whole family! Arrive early and try to walk to the parade. There is parking in the Village and on side streets, but many of the roads are closed. The parade lines up on Montrose Ave. and enters in the 1600 block of Frederick Road (near Matthews 1600 Restaurant). It proceeds down to the 700 block of Frederick Road and makes a right onto Bloomsbury Ave. The parade ends at the Catonsville Elementary School, and fireworks at Catonsville High School begin at 9:15 PM!

(If none of those float your boat, you can explore Robinson Nature Center, cool off at the Roger Carter Community Center Pool, visit the Ellicott City Colored School Restored Museum, and check out the Independence Day Concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion!)

Tips for a Great July 4th

  1. Arrive Early: Popular spots like the Columbia Lakefront can get crowded, so arrive early to secure a good spot.

  2. Pack Essentials: Bring sunscreen, hats, and plenty of water to stay cool and hydrated.

  3. Stay Safe: Follow local guidelines and safety protocols, especially in crowded areas.

Happy 4th of July!
