The Academy of St Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble, known for their "splendid playing, impeccable sound, and balance" (Gramophone), will make their much-anticipated debut at Chamber Music Maryland. For their CMM program, they will present contrasting string works written by two composers whose lives were profoundly shaped by the wars and terror of the 20th century, Dmitri Shostakovich and Erwin Schulhoff. The concert will also feature Felix Mendelssohn's Octet for Strings, a masterpiece composed at the precocious age of 16.
Narration for this concert will be provided by WBJC's radio host, Jonathan Palevsky.
After the show, please join the artists and fellow concertgoers for a chocolate and champagne toast!
