If you've been following me for a while, you already know how much I love highlighting everything that makes Howard County a fantastic place to live, play, and explore with your family. But did you know that Columbia is making serious noise as Maryland’s capital of live performances?

This summer, our little corner of the state is transforming into a stage for unforgettable performances, with live music events popping up in nearly every part of town, from the iconic Merriweather Post Pavilion to hidden gems like Frisco & The Reckless Shepherd, The Collective Encore, and Lakefront Live. And now, with the addition of the Merriweather District’s Amped in the Park series, there’s even more reason to keep your calendar open! These family-friendly outdoor concerts feature a great mix of genres and are perfect for an easy evening out. Whether you’re planning a family outing, a night out with friends, or a date night under the stars, Howard County has a sound for every occasion.

And the best part? Most of these events are hosted by members of Visit Howard County, the amazing organization dedicated to showcasing our area as a must-visit destination. They work hard behind the scenes to make sure these experiences are not only incredible but accessible to everyone, locals and visitors alike!

The Columbia Live Performances Bucket List: Don’t Miss These Summer Highlights

Merriweather Post Pavilion

If you haven’t been to a show at Merriweather, make this your summer to change that. It’s one of the most iconic outdoor music venues in the country, right here in our backyard! With artists like Ben Folds playing with the Howard County Youth Orchestra, Keith Urban, Luke Bryan, Dave Matthews Band, Mumford and Sons, and Counting Crows, it’s a must for anyone who loves music in the open air.

Wine in the Woods (May 17–18, 2025)

Music meets Merlot at this beloved wine and music festival that’s become a can't-miss annual tradition. With multiple stages hosting live performances all day long, over 25 Maryland wineries pouring their best blends, and an impressive lineup of food vendors and artisan crafters, Wine in the Woods offers something for everyone to sip, savor, and enjoy. Whether you're a music lover, a wine enthusiast, or both, this event is a full-sensory celebration of local flavor, sound, and summertime vibes.

Capital Jazz Fest (June 6–8, 2025)

One of the most anticipated music events of the summer, Capital Jazz Fest returns to Merriweather for a three-day celebration of smooth jazz, classic soul, R&B, funk, and more. This isn’t just a concert, it’s a full cultural experience. Whether you're a lifelong jazz lover or just looking for a fun weekend out with friends, Capital Jazz Fest delivers unforgettable vibes, incredible talent, and the kind of summer magic that makes Columbia shine.

Toby’s Dinner Theatre, Disney’s The Little Mermaid (All Summer)

Looking for something truly unique and family-friendly? Toby’s Dinner Theatre offers a one-of-a-kind evening with delicious food, top-tier musical performances, and Broadway-style talent (all under one roof). This summer, dive into the magic with their lively production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. It’s an enchanting experience that will have the whole family singing "Under the Sea" on the ride home!

Lakefront Live (All Summer)

This one has my whole heart. Picture this: warm summer nights under the stars, live bands playing your favorite tunes, local food trucks serving up tasty bites, and beautiful waterfront views, all completely free. Columbia Association’s Lakefront Live series transforms Downtown Columbia’s lakefront into an entertainment hotspot with a full schedule of concerts, movies, and community events. LakeFest (June 14–16, 2025)

As part of the Columbia Festival of the Arts, LakeFest brings three full days of live music, artisan vendors, tasty food trucks, and hands-on family activities, all set against the scenic backdrop of Columbia’s beautiful lakefront. Frisco & The Reckless Shepherd

We love this local gem for its laid-back vibe, delicious food, and steady lineup of live music every weekend. From acoustic sets to rock and pop covers, the energy at Frisco & Reckless is always just right, and when the weather’s nice, the patio is the ultimate hangout spot.

The Collective: Offshore and Encore

Whether you're at Encore with high-energy cover bands or outside on the patio at Offshore, this Merriweather District hotspot delivers a solid lineup of live music and DJ nights. I’ll definitely be checking out some of the cover bands that will be performing this summer! 

Amped in the Park at Color Burst Park

Don’t sleep on this one! Held in Color Burst Park in the heart of the Merriweather District, Amped in the Park is a summer concert series that promises chill vibes and great music. The series kicks off on June 12th and continues with a fresh lineup of performers throughout the season.
